Fashion Month

For fun, and a little diversion from all of the current events, I thought this week would be fun to share some of the beauty that was on display at the various Fashion weeks in Milan, NYC and Paris. These designers - among many others -  and their detail to artistry never fail to excite and inspire me.

Valentino

In an effort to push the envelope further with the theme of inclusivity, Pierpaolo Piccioli featured transgender and curvy body types in his show which is fantastic but he stripped much of the color and embellishments that I’ve become accustomed to seeing (And love). In fact, I featured one of my own favorites here in December! Piccioli’s theory is that a more uniform look ”allows the individuality of the person wearing it to shine through”. Nevertheless, by look 26 in the show, we were able to see more color and embellishments were on display. Here is some of the divine Valentino magic.

Naeem Khan

I have a very special place in my heart for Naeem Khan’s creations for a few reasons. First, he designed the beautiful gown that I wore at my wedding in Aspen and secondly because of the way that he continuously pays homage to Halston in his collections. (Halston mentored Khan who worked for the legend when he fist came to the US from India in 1978). Khan has been known for his painstakingly elaborate, hand-embroidered collections and this one was a tribute to New York. It is “my thank-you to America for when I came here to work and learn the craft at 18, and for the opportunity to build my own business over the last 30 years.” He added, “People are leaving New York, and I want to stay in New York and continue to make beautiful things. These are clothes that will live in a woman’s archive and be passed down from one generation to the next.”

It should be no surpirse that Naeem is consulting on a Netflix series in production on Halston starring Ewan McGregor, who was the special guest at his show. McGregor has been shadowing Khan in order to learn not only the industry, but also about the Master Halston as well.

ETRO

Veronica Etro’s clothing is always lush and full of textures and I love that she finds a way to make her clothing accessible while also being couture. A few of her pieces really caught my attention and I could see them being workhorse staples in my closet. Her goal was to “to contrast ‘respectability and seduction’ and ‘coziness and tailoring’ with this collection and she succeeded with exclamation marks!

My own love affair with Etro began long ago! I featured one of my absolute favorite vacation dresses in one of my early posts here back in May, 2017!

Badgley Mischka

For the most part, Mark Badgley and James Mischka’s collection was inspired by Edwardian “Downtwon Abbey” meets John Singer Sargent. Lots of high necklines, and conservative tones. However, there were also “mega-watt” black-tie ensembles that took my breath away.

I swooned when I laid eyes on this Badgley Mischka which I featured in a September, 2018 post
