New Year, New Traditions

What’s better than having a grandchild?

Having two grandchildren.

A few months ago, our family welcomed Jack, thanks to my “bonus” daughter (aka stepdaughter) Makenzie and her husband Hunter.

Jack has been a delightful addition to the clan and is already an accomplished traveler, thanks to his busy and active parents.

I didn’t think I could love anybody as much as I love little Scarlett. And then I met Jack, and I realized that wouldn’t be a problem at all. It’s true what they say about your heart expanding to fit more love into it.

I recently wrote about tweaking old traditions, but I didn’t mention the beauty of creating new ones. Traditions like Camp GJ (my grandma name), where Jack and Scarlett spend the weekend at my house, and I school them in fine art and fashion. Or Shopping with GJ, where we spend the afternoon at my favorite shopping haunts. Or Golfing with GJ. Or Tennis with GJ.

You get the picture. The new traditions I have in mind are just excuses to spend time with my grandchildren. And, you boil them down to their essence, that’s what most traditions are: ways to maximize our time with the people we love. It’s the one thing we’ll never have enough of.

I hope your New Year is filled with new beginnings, new beginnings, and plenty of time with those you love most.
